St. Louis Rams players sent a message Sunday, and they won’t be disciplined for their silent protest.
Five members of the Rams took the field prior to their game with the Oakland Raiders by using the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture. The hand gesture is in protest to what’s happened in nearby Ferguson, Mo., where ex-Ferguson cop Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown. Protests have taken place across the country after a grand jury decided not to charge Wilson.
One of those protests included the Rams, who not only did the gesture in pregame introductions but also after scoring a touchdown. ESPN.com reports, however, that the Rams players will not be disciplined in any way for the protest.
The Rams’ protest wasn’t as well-received by the St. Louis Police Officers Association, who issued a strongly worded statement condemning the Rams players’ actions.
