This season’s edition of NBA All-Star weekend will be completely devoid of Boston Celtics.
The Celtics announced Wednesday that center Kelly Olynyk, who has missed the last 10 games with an ankle injury, will not participate in Friday’s Rising Stars Challenge. Olynyk will make the trip to Brooklyn, however, and be a part of the “non-game festivities.”
Olynyk, a Toronto native, was selected to play for Team World under the annual rookie-sophomore showcase’s new international format. Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Tuesday that Olynyk would be unlikely to play in Wednesday’s matchup with the Atlanta Hawks, either.
With the second-year big man now out of commission, the Celtics will not have a single All-Star weekend participant for the first time since 2001.
