Bill Belichick coached Reggie Wayne for less than two weeks, but the star wide receiver still managed to impress the New England Patriots coach during that span.
It appeared Wayne was poised to make the Patriots final 53-man roster after he officially signed with the team Aug. 25 and received a $450,000 signing bonus. But New England released the wideout Saturday, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wayne was the one who asked to be let go.
After the Patriots announced the move, Belichick released a statement praising Wayne.

Now, Wayne has some decisions to make, and according to Schefter, retirement is an option. But he still is reportedly open to playing again in the right situation.

Wayne spent 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before signing with the Patriots. He caught 82 touchdowns and was one of Peyton Manning’s favorite weapons in Indy. He has 14,345 receiving yards in 211 career games.
