Perhaps there’s only one delusional employee within the NFL office.
A “very influential person in the NFL” told WFAN’s Craig Carton “there’s no doubt in his mind” Brady would serve a four-game suspension this season, despite U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman overturning the New England Patriots quarterbacks’ punishment in the Deflategate scandal.
The league’s official statement on the matter reads much differently, however.
“It is highly unlikely that the appeal will be decided before the end of the season,” an NFL spokesperson told ProFootballTalk on Friday.
ProFootballTalk noted that no briefing schedule has been set for the NFL’s appeal of Berman’s decision, making it highly improbable a ruling would be decided before February.
ProFootballTalk also noted Brady could agree to a settlement, sitting out the Patriots’ final two regular-season games if their playoff seeding is locked up. That also seems very unlikely, since Brady currently holds more power than the NFL in his suspension appeal, since he faces no ban after Berman’s decision.
