UPDATE (6:45 p.m. ET): Zach Sill received a two-game suspension from the NHL, which explained why the hit was illegal and cited Adam McQuaid’s “shaken up” nature in the aftermath for the suspension.

ORIGINAL STORY: Zach Sill might not escape punishment for injuring Adam McQuaid, after all.
The NHL announced Wednesday that Sill will have a hearing to review his check on Adam McQuaid, which injured the Boston Bruins defenseman during the Washington Capitals’ 3-2 win the previous night at TD Garden.

Early in the second period, Sill hit McQuaid from behind, sending him head-first into the boards. McQuaid had to be helped off the ice and didn’t return to the game.
The referee declined to penalize Sill.
Sill should learn his fate quickly, as the Capitals face the New York Islanders on Thursday. The NHL Department of Player Safety could punish Sill with a fine, suspension or both, proving there’s no such thing as “scott free.”
