The Boston Celtics officially have waived forward David Lee, the team announced Friday.
“We thank David for his contributions to our organization and wish him nothing but the best in the future,” Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in the release.
Lee, 32, averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 15.7 minutes per game for Boston. He was acquired July 27 in a trade with the Golden State Warriors.
By waiving Lee, the Celtics save money on the salary cap despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, as The Vertical’s Bobby Marks explains.
