Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap to the opposition.

David Ortiz thought he got all of the first pitch he saw Tuesday night, as the Boston Red Sox designated hitter crushed a fly ball to deep center field off Chicago White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana.

But Austin Jackson had other plans. The White Sox center fielder timed his jump perfectly to keep Ortiz’s deep fly inside U.S. Cellular Field and prevent the Red Sox from getting on the board.

Ortiz had every right to be upset after Jackson’s robbery, but Big Papi opted instead to give the veteran outfielder a brief round of applause for his web gem.

It looks like career home run No. 509 will have to wait.
