David Ortiz might be in his final Major League Baseball season, but he still can hit the ball a country mile.
The Boston Red Sox slugger proved as much Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox. With his team trailing by a run in the fifth inning, Ortiz crushed a 1-1 offering from pitcher Carlos Rodon into the U.S. Cellular Field seats for a two-run home run that put Boston ahead.

Ortiz’s no-doubter was his sixth home run of the season and the 509th homer of his career, moving him into a tie with Gary Sheffield for 25th on MLB’s all-time list. The 40-year-old’s deep ball also made history for another reason.

We know Ortiz said he’s retiring at the end of this season, but the way he’s swinging the bat so far — he’s fifth in the American League with 21 RBIs — maybe he’ll reconsider.
