Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout and Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant were named the American League and National League Most Valuable Players, respectively, by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America on Thursday.
Trout edged out Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts thanks to his impressive standard and advanced 2016 stats.

Trout received 19 out of a possible 30 first-place votes and earned 356 overall points. Betts came in second with nine first-place votes and 311 points, followed by Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (227 points).

Bryant also had an extraordinary season with 39 home runs, 121 runs and a .939 OPS. He had the best WAR (wins above replacement) of any NL player (7.67).
He came one vote shy of winning unanimously, as he received 29 out of a possible 30 first-place votes. He enjoyed a huge margin over Daniel Murphy (second place) and Corey Seager (third).
