World Cup Scores, Highlights: Colombia Crushes Poland, Adds Intrigue To Group H

Saturday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup action features three games: England vs. Panama, Japan vs. Senegal and Poland vs. Colombia. Check below for game reports, highlights and other key facts from World Cup 2018 Day 10.

4:45 p.m. ET: Colombia 3, Poland 0

After one compelling Group H matchup Sunday, the nightcap proved to be far more lopsided.

Columbia handed Poland a trouncing, winning 3-0. Such a win provided a good bit of intrigue heading into the finales of the group stage.

Japan and Senegal — who played to a 2-2 draw earlier in the day — sit atop the group with four points apiece, while Colombia now owns third place with three points. With the loss, Poland will not advance in the tournament. However, given the result for Colombia, they now have the best goal differential in the group at plus-two, while the remaining pair of contenders each sit at plus-one.

Yerry Mina opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Although the game hung in the balance for a good chunk of the second half, Colombia put it away with Radamel Falcao’s 70th-minute tally and Juan Cuadrado’s breakaway in the 75th.

Next up: Both teams will return to the field Thursday at 10 a.m. ET. with the group very much up for grabs. Senegal will battle Colombia, while Japan will face Poland.

1:30 p.m. ET: Japan 2, Senegal 2
Group H in the 2018 FIFA World Cup just got very, very interesting.

Japan and Senegal played to a 2-2 draw in Russia on Sunday, leaving both teams with one win and one draw in group play. As a result, Sunday’s nightcap between Poland and Colombia, both of whom are 0-1, will have major implications for Group H standings.

Whichever team wins can pull within a point of first place with a game to go.

As for Japan-Senegal, the match was highly entertaining. Senegal held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but Japan refused to lay down, with a late goal from Keisuke Honda sealing the draw.

With the result, Senegal built upon its already impressive World Cup résumé.

Man of the Match: Sadio Mane, who was all over the field for the African side.

Next up: Both teams will return to the field Thursday at 10 a.m. ET, with spots in the Round of 16 likely up for grabs. Senegal will take on Colombia, while Japan will square off against Poland.

10 a.m. ET: England 6, Panama 1
For the first time since 2010, England is in the Round of 16.

Led by Harry Kane’s three goals, the Three Lions dominated Panama on Sunday in a 6-1 victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. With the result, Belgium also advanced to the knockout round, although the top qualifier from Group G is yet to be determined.

Panama and Tunisia officially are eliminated.

England also got two goals from John Stones, and held a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime. Panama did have its signature moment of the second half, however, as Felipe Baloy scored the first World Cup goal in Canal Men history.

Obviously a tough result for Panama, but a great moment for the team and country nonetheless.

With his dominant performance, Kane now stands alone on top of the scoring leaderboard.

We have a feeling the leadeboard will experience immense shuffling throughout the tournament.

Man of the Match: Kane, who recorded the second hat trick of the 2018 World Cup.

Next up: Both teams will return to the field Thursday at 2 p.m. ET. England will play Belgium in a game that will decide which team wins the group, While Panama will take on Tunisia.
