For Burress, It’s Bye-Bye NFL For Good

The return of Michael Vick to the NFL this past months means a lot of things. For starters, its proves that commissioner Roger Goodell is strict but forgiving and that the Eagles are downright insane. What it doesn't mean however, is that Plaxico Burress has an automatic free pass back to the NFL when he's out of the slammer.

Burress agreed to a two-year sentence but could be out in 20 months. When he returns to the free world, the 32-year-old will have some life left in those long legs and quick hands. But will he have the drive? According to one anonymous general manager, the answer is no.

"I don't think we will hear from Plax ever again in football," the general manager told the New York Daily News Thursday. "That's my bet. I could be wrong. But I think if he makes a comeback, it doesn't work. He's not a strong-minded guy. He won't do the little things to keep himself going. I really see him going in the tank and not doing the little things to keep his body right. I hope I'm wrong. I never thought he was a guy who loved the game. He let too many stupid things get in the way."

Goodell ruled that Burress will be suspended from the NFL and is unable to sign with any team until his sentence is served. Should he want to return to the NFL once released remains — as does his ability to play the game he's been able to dominate for years and years.

"It will be one of those opportunities where he has to go prove he has something left," another general manager said. "The odds will certainly be against him."
