Pedro Martinez Picked to Start Game 2 of World Series

The "Who's your daddy?" chants will be in full effect on Thursday night in the Bronx.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told WPHT-AM radio in Philadelphia on Tuesdsay that Pedro Martinez will get the ball for Game 2 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.

Martinez brings a 6-2 postseason record and 3.13 ERA into his Game 2 start, but the three-time Cy Young winner has had his problems with the Yankees and pitching on 161st Street in the past. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two postseason starts in the Bronx, including the collapse in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.

In his only postseason start this season in Game 2 of the NLCS, Martinez pitched seven shutout innings against the Dodgers in a 2-1 loss. He has one World Series start under his belt, earning a win with seven shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the 2004 World Series.

Martinez got the nod over Cole Hamels, who has struggled this postseason going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. Hamels is slated to pitch Game 3  of the World Series in Philadelphia.
