Rangers’ Michael Del Zotto Named NHL Rookie of the Month

Just a few weeks ago the Rangers didn't know if defenseman Michael Del Zotto would be back in juniors or sticking it out in Manhattan. But it didn't take long for Del Zotto to sell Glen Sather and Co. on his immense talent.

Del Zotto, 19, was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for October on Tuesday after scoring 12 points in 14 games. He recorded four goals and eight assists, including three power-play goals to lead all rookies in scoring for the first month of the season.

The 20th overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft, Del Zotto began the season with points in seven of the first nine games.

"Forget about his skill and all the points he's put on the board, but
it's the way he handles himself," Rangers coach John Tortorella told NHL.com. "I don't think he's afraid to make mistakes so it allows him
to try to make a difference. That's pretty unique for a 19-year-old guy
playing the toughest position in the game."
