Cuban sensation Aroldis Chapman appears to be getting closer to signing a deal — and a surprising contender has emerged to try to woo him.

According to ESPN, the Toronto Blue Jays held a private workout for the 21-year-old southpaw on Thursday morning in Florida, and afterward, the team met with his representatives. Because Chapman's agents were in Florida this week as well, some believe Chapman is getting closer to signing a deal.

The five teams who are rumored to be in serious contention for the pitcher are the A's, the Angels, the Red Sox, the Yankees and now the Blue Jays.

ESPN reported on Thursday that the Angels were preparing an offer for Chapman but did not hold a workout for him in Florida.

Interest in Chapman skyrocketed after the pitcher worked out for 14 teams in early December, when his fastball was clocked at 97 mph.

How much will it take to sign Chapman? An industry source told ESPN.com he may command $20 million to $25 million, a price tag that has risen substantially since the Red Sox offered him a $15.5 million deal in November.
