The Steelers will take a knee on wild spending this offseason.

According to The Associated Press, the team will approach the uncapped year with a self-imposed salary cap.

Steelers’ director of football operations Kevin Colbert doesn’t think there’s any reason for the team to increase its offseason spending habits since all NFL teams are dealing with a new situation.

“You don’t know what you’re going to be dealing with,” Colbert told the AP. “First of all, no one’s been in an uncapped year since 1993, so it’s a whole different era and no one knows how this will play out. It’s a common sense way to approach things.”

Despite the self-imposed restrictions, Colbert recognizes the Steelers need to make changes.

“I think if you enter the season with the same group you ended the season with, you might expect the same results because we’re a 9-7 team at this point,” Colbert told the AP.

The Steelers have signed many of their star players to long-term contracts, including James Harrison, Troy Polamalu and Ben Roethlisberger. The team has 18 players set to hit free agency next month, including quarterback Charlie Batch, tackle Willie Colon and kicker Jeff Reed.
