Bruins Trade Derek Morris to Phoenix Coyotes for Draft Pick

The Boston Bruins have made their first deal of the day, sending defenseman Derek Morris to Phoenix in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2011. TSN first reported the story, and NESN.com's James Murphy later confirmed the deal with Morris.

The move frees up some cap space for the Bruins, who are now a bit more flexible for the rest of the afternoon. Morris signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Bruins in the offseason.

Morris has played in 58 games for the Bruins, scoring three goals and registering 22 assists. He played in Phoenix for parts of five seasons, most recently posting a -13 rating in 57 games last year.
