Bruins Confirm Marco Sturm Will Miss Remainder of Playoffs

As reported by NESN.com Saturday, the Bruins have confirmed that leading goal scorer Marco Sturm is out for the remainder of the playoffs. The winger suffered a knee injury on his first shift in the Bruins dramatic 5-4 overtime victory over the Flyers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals on Saturday.

The Bruins have announced that Sturm suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. He will have surgery sometime in the next four-to-six weeks with an expected recovery time of six months.

Sturm was injured trying to hit Flyers defenseman Matthew Carle just 21 seconds into regulation. Sturm remained on the ice for a minute until a stoppage in play allowed Bruins trainers and teammates to assist him.

On Sunday, Bruins head coach Claude Julien confirmed the bad news.

"It's unfortunate news for our hockey club and certainly for him," said Julien, "who battled through a major injury last year and was really looking forward to these playoffs."

Sturm tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee last season in December 2008, and after playing for a month with the injury, he finally gave in and had surgery.

The German winger had zero points in seven playoff games against Buffalo and Philadelphia.
