Their perfect season is complete. The Boston Militia women's football team crushed the Sacremento Sirens, 39-7, in the International Women's Football League Championship on July 24. The Militia finish their season with a 11-0 undefeated record.
Despite being a newer team in the league, the Militia continue to tear it up on the gridiron and they boast a 26-3 overall record since the program's foundation in 2007. Owner of the Militia, Ernie Boch Jr., was extremely pleased with the team's performance throughout the entire 2010 season.
"The Militia went undefeated (8-0) in the regular season and continued their domination in the field to win the North East Division and the Eastern Conference Championship. To be able to add the title 'World Champions' to this perfect season is just incredible," Boch said after the game, according to PRWeb.com.
Quarterback Allison Cahill was the shining star of the championship game, leading the Militia with 133 passing yards with 2 touchdown passes and 39 rushing yards in the 32-point blowout. Though the offense was stellar, it was the entire Militia defense that earned the MVP Award in the game as they shut down the powerful offense of the Sacramento Sirens. The Sirens were finally able to cross into the end zone with 52 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to avoid a shutout.
"Winning the 2010 IWFL Championship was the perfect ending to our journey. We are so proud and excited to bring the trophy home to Massachusetts and to honor the women who came before us and helped pave the way for this winning season," Cahill said after the victory.
To top it all off, the game was played in 90-degree heat at the Round Rock ISD Stadium in Austin, Texas. Guess that proves these women could take the heat, and it paid off with a perfect season.
