Kaye Cowher, wife of former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, passed away on Friday after losing her battle with skin cancer.

An athlete herself, Kaye met Bill at North Carolina State in 1976, where she played basketball and he played football. Her twin sister, Faye Young, (also Kaye's maiden name) played alongside Kaye, and together, they won the ACC title in 1978.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cowher went on to play professionally for the New York Stars and New Jersey Gems until 1981.

Kaye and Bill married in that year and subsequently had three daughters, all of whom have played college basketball themselves.

Kaye was recently instrumental in convincing Bill to move the family back to the Tar Heel State.

Her services will be held on Monday.
