Nets Owner Mikhail Prohkorov Files Paperwork to Change Team’s Name

The New Jersey Nets are in the rebuilding stages.

That includes everything, including the name of the team.

According to NJ.com, new Nets owner Mikhail Prohkorov has begun the application process for changing the team’s name.

If accepted, the name change would come into effect for the 2012-13 season, when New Jersey plans to move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

"The documents are already submitted to the NBA office," Prokhorov told Forbes Russia magazine. "The name change will happen in 2012."

That name, however, has not yet been specified. So what could it be?

How about the Brooklyn Billionaires, relating to the owners’ financial comfort? Or maybe the New York Absolutes (as in the Vodka), playing on Prokhorov’s Russian heritage?
