Tom Brady‘s future in New England still up in the air. But a rookie quarterback in the Midwest has signed a new deal, and it may affect the Patriots’ play-caller’s negotiations.
Brady has been mum about contract issues between his party and the Patriots’ front office. However, the New England region has been on edge regarding his future plans. Owner Robert Kraft attempted to ease Patriot fans’ concerns last week by saying that Brady will be in New England “one way or another” — whatever that means.
On Friday, No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford signed a six-year, $78-million deal with the Rams, with a record $50 million guaranteed. Perhaps Brady will now cite this deal when working out a contract for himself. After all, Bradford has yet to play a down in the NFL while Brady, a three-time Super Bowl champ, has a decade of experience.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 pick last year, got $41.7 million in guaranteed money on a six-year, $72 million deal with the Lions. Obviously, there’s a rising trend in guaranteed money, but will New England pay the 32-year-old veteran (who will turn 33 on Aug. 3) more than the Rams paid this year’s No. 1 overall pick?
