The Red Sox can make up some serious ground this week as they host the last-place Mariners and the AL wild card-leading Rays in back-to-back series.
But if the Sox want to shrink that 5 1/2 game gap between them and the Rays, it's going to mean topping a few aces.
On Wednesday, the M's will throw Felix Hernandez at the Sox. The righty is sporting a disappointing 9-10 record, but he owns a 2.51 ERA, which is second best in the AL behind Clay Buchholz's 2.26 ERA. The M's hurler also has 183 strikeouts, also good for second most in the AL.
On Friday, the Sox will head down to Florida where David Price awaits. The 25-year-old southpaw is 15-5 with a 2.97 ERA. Price has lost just two starts since Mid-June.
Wrapping up the weekend series will be righty Matt Garza. Garza is 13-7 with a 3.62 ERA and is a Sox killer as he owns a 7-3 record against Boston in his five career seasons. He's also 7-2 with a 3.42 ERA at home this summer.
