Simply put, the teams in the AL West aren't as good as Boston's East Coast rivals.
Not only do the teams in the AL East have far better records than their West Coast counterparts, but that margin likely is as close as it is because of the different levels of competition in their divisions.
Still, going west isn't as easy as it should be.
The Red Sox have a losing record against Oakland, and are only 4-3 against the Mariners.
It is also true that trips to Oakland have given Boston fits in recent years.
So, are you a fan of a late season West Coast trip for the Red Sox?
