It will be difficult to replace Kris Jenkins as the anchor of the New York Jets' defensive line, but the team made its first move in an attempt to do so on Wednesday by signing tackle Howard Green.
Green was selected in the sixth round in 2002 out of LSU by the Houston Texans. He has since been a journeyman, playing for the Ravens, Texans, Saints, Dolphins, Vikings, and Redskins before joining the Jets in 2009. He saw action in 12 games, but left for the Redskins in the offseason.
After only making the practice squad roster in Washington, Green will now have a chance to contribute on the Jets — having signed a two-year deal with the team — Adam Schefter reports.
Rookie Matt Kroul was listed as Jenkins's backup at nose tackle in the 3-4 system.
