Zdeno Chara Signs Seven-Year, $45.5 Million Extension With Bruins

Zdeno Chara appears to be quickly following in Patrice Bergeron's footsteps.  Just one day after Bergeron signed a three year extension with the Bruins, Chara has reportedly come to terms with the team on a deal that would keep him in Boston for at least twice that long.

The Bruins captain will be receiving  $6.5 million for seven years ($45.5 million total), meaning that Chara will be a Bruin into his forties.

''It's all but done … but like I said [Friday], not an easy negotiation, for many reasons," agent Matt Keator told The Boston Globe. "So many factors went into it … length of term, money, of course … and then everything that's happening around the league with long-term deals and the chance of another work stoppage in two years. But this will make Zee very happy. He's said all along Boston is the only place he wants to be, he's committed to bringing the Cup to Boston, and he's going to be around for a very long time in hopes of making that happen."

Specific terms of the deal have not been released, nor has Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli yet commented on the deal.
