Report: DeMarlo Hale Out of the Running for Mets Managerial Position, Likely Returning to Red Sox

The Red Sox faced one major shakeup to their coaching staff during the 2010 offseason, but they will likely not endure another.

According to multiple reports, Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale was not asked to return for the second round of interviews for the New York Mets managerial position, meaning he will likely return to his position with the Red Sox.

Should Hale decide to return to Boston, then the Red Sox will have all but pitching coach John Farrell returning for the 2011 season. Farrell accepted the position as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays last month, a position that Hale was also a top candidate for. Curt Young replaces Farrell as the new pitching coach for the Sox.

The finalists for the Mets position are Terry Collins, Chip Hale, Bob Melvin and Wally Backman. The new Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, said Tuesday that they expect the position to be filled by Thanksgiving.
