This is the one All-Star game Steven Kampfer is hoping to miss.
The Bruins defenseman, who spent 20 games with the Providence Bruins before his December call up to Boston, was named to the AHL Eastern Conference All-Star team on Tuesday. The 2011 AHL All-Star Classic is set for Jan. 30-31 at Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.
Kampfer was the sole representative voted from Providence, but the defenseman is hoping that he will still be up with Boston, and will therefore miss the All-Star Classic.
Each team is made up of 12 forwards, eight defenseman and three goaltenders. Fans voted the starters for each team, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remaining players. All 30 AHL team have at least one All-Star representative in the Classic.
Hershey Bears head coach Mark French and assistant coach Troy Mann are set to lead the Eastern Conference team, while John Hynes of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Jared Bednar of Peoria are set to co-coach the Western Conference team.
