The Boston Bruins have officially gotten the better of their trade with the Florida Panthers.
The deal sent Nathan Horton and Greg Campbell –two players who have succeeded in their roles this season — to Boston, with defenseman Dennis Wideman going to Florida. Wideman was traded on Monday to the Washington Capitals in exchange for center Jake Hauswirth and a third-round pick.
In 61 games for Florida this season, Wideman has nine goals and 24 assists but a minus-26 rating. The Capitals are no doubt hoping he can rediscover the offense flair he showed in the 2008-09 season, when he had 13 goals, 37 assists and a plus-32 rating that ranked him sixth in the entire NHL (this year, he ranks 847th, or third-worst in the NHL).
Hauswirth, 23, plays in the ECHL.
