Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Guy Boucher pulled his starting goaltender, Dwayne Roloson, for the second time in the Eastern Conference final in Game 4 after he allowed three first-period goals. Mike Smith came on in relief and was impressive, stopping all 21 shots he faced and creating some debate as to who should get the nod in Game 5 on Monday.
Boucher has insisted that Roloson is his No. 1 goaltender, and for good reason. The 41-year-old entered the series as arguably the hottest goalie in the NHL and was a major reason why the Lightning were able to easily dismiss the Washington Capitals in the second round. But he’s faltered a bit in this series, opening the door for Smith.
Smith has stopped all 29 shots he’s faced this postseason, and rejuvenated the Lightning after a subpar first period on Saturday. But the experience edge goes to Roloson.
