The book “Moneyball” by Michael Lewis is one of the most popular sports books in the last decade or so. If the first trailer for the upcoming movie based on the book is any indication, the film version should be just as good.
The first trailer for Moneyball premiered on Yahoo! Movies on Thursday. The two-and-a-half minute clip gives an pretty in-depth look into the movie, which is scheduled to be released on Sept. 23.
Brad Pitt was tabbed to portray Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, while Jonah Hill is set to play a character named Peter Brand, a character based on Paul DePodesta, the former Dodgers GM and current VP of player development for the New York Mets.
Red Sox fans will recognize a few things in the film. Former Sox catcher Scott Hatteberg, who was a big part of Lewis’ book, will also apparently play a big role in the movie. Hatteberg is played by Chris Pratt, who is best known for his work in NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Boston fans will also recognize a scene in which Pitt appears to be having a conversation at Fenway Park.
