Ricky Rubio may be coming to Minnesota after all.
According to ESPN.com, the Barcelona point guard has already agreed to a deal with the team that originally drafted him, the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, it has not been made official because he has not yet reached a buyout agreement with Barcelona.
After Barcelona won the Spanish ACB Championship on Tuesday, Rubio talked about reaching a buyout with the team, saying "We are talking to Barcelona and we will soon see."
Earlier this month it was reported that Rubio had agreed to a deal with the Timberwolves, but the team never confirmed the reports. It now appears that the only thing that is keeping Rubio from being a member of the T-Wolves is his desire not to pay the buyout with Barcelona, which has happened before.
The TImberwolves made Rubio the No. 5 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, and he and general manager David Kahn agreed to a deal soon after. However, Rubio backed out of the agreement at the last minute because he did not want to pay the buyout.
Rubio struggled offensively this past season with Barcelona, averaging just 6.5 points per game on 39 percent shooting. But his passing and defensive abilities have teams believing that he is ready to play in the NBA.
