The 2011 Stanley Cup Final between the Bruins and Canucks got under way in Vancouver on Wednesday night, and it saw Game 1 end in dramatic fashion.

Goalkeepers Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo combined to stop 69 consecutive shots in the game’s first 59:41. But after a defensive breakdown late in the third period, Vancouver’s Raffi Torres capitalized to put home the only goal in the contest, giving the Canucks the early 1-0 series lead. The series will continue Saturday at 8 p.m., with Game 2 also taking place in Vancouver.

With the series slated to return to Boston next Monday, the TD Garden has already begun preparations for its first ever Stanley Cup game, beginning with a new banner that reads “Stanley Cup Final” now hanging on the building’s exterior.
