Nathaniel Fujita stood in Framingham District court Tuesday wearing a Wayland football t-shirt awaiting a decision that will affect the rest of his life, as well as those closest to him.

Fujita, accused of first-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend Lauren Astley, is being held without bail until a court hearing next month after entering a not guilty plea, according to ESPN. Investigators presented evidence that will likely put the former high school football and track athlete behind bars for life.

Fujita planned to attend Trinity College in the fall.

Astley, was an 18-year-old with plans to attend to Elon University in the fall, was captain of Wayland's tennis team. The two dated on and off for three years.
