Report: Washington Capitals, Tomas Vokoun Agree to One-Year, $1.5 Million Contract

Just a day after shipping 23-year old goalie Semyon Varlamov to Colorado, the Washington Capitals have already found his replacement

The team has agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with netminder Tomas Vokoun, TSN.ca reports.

Voukoun, 34, will add a veteran presence to a Washington team that was littered with inexperience in net. The Capitals finished the 2010-11 season with the best record in the Eastern Conference, despite having three goalies on the roster that were 23 years old or younger.

Voukoun spent the past four seasons with the Florida Panthers, compiling a 101-108-30 record. He will compete with Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby — who started 45 and 12 games, respectively — for time between the pipes.
