Come Sept. 14, the Vegas lights will be shining bright, and one boxer will likely go home with his first career loss.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (44-0, 26 KOs) will fight Canelo Alvarez at the MGM Grand this fall in Las Vegas, according to a tweet sent from the undefeated welterweight champion’s Twitter account Wednesday. Mayweather is coming off of a dominant victory earlier this month against interim titleholder Robert Guerrero.
Mayweather will be looking to extend his win streak to 45 against arguably the best 154-pounder in the world. Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) recently took control of two world titles after an April 20 victory over Austin Trout. Even though it seems there is still no progress towards the Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight that the world has been waiting for, Mayweather insists the fans will be in for a treat.
