There’s a reason Thierry Henry is the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer. He can do things like this.
Henry scored both goals in the New York Red Bulls’ 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday night, but it was his second that is grabbing headlines around the world.
The veteran forward netted in the 88th minute using a bicycle kick. He had his back to the Impact goal but still managed to strike the ball powerfully and accurately. It is undoubtedly a leading contender for 2013 MLS’ “Goal of the Year” award.
Henry, 35, joined the Red Bulls in 2010 as a “designated player” — a distinction which allows MLS teams to pay star players (like David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Denilson) wages which exceed the salary cap. The former Arsenal and Barcelona star’s $4.4 million salary tops MLS. It’s not hard to see why.
