Kyle Clark from Channel 9 News in Denver has reported that “Varlamov is being held without bond. Night in the Denver jail.”
The 25-year-old has been a major part of Colorado’s early success to start the 2013-14 NHL season. The Avalanche sit atop the Western Conference standings with a 10-1 record, and they lead the league in goals against average and penalty killing thanks to the Russian goaltender’s stellar performance (7-1, 1.76 GAA, .945 SV%).
If Varlamov has to miss any games because of this situation, Avalanche backup and former Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jean-Sebastien Giguere will likely take over the starting role. He’s 3-0 with two shutouts this year.
