Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson couldn’t help but crack a smile Monday night.
Karlsson had a wide-open look at the Pittsburgh Penguins’ net after taking a feed from Clarke MacArthur, but Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, while moving from post to post and falling to the ice, snared the puckĀ out of the air in what was truly one of the saves of the year.
The stop kept the game knotted at one goal apiece midway through the third period, a score that held until Penguins winger James Neal netted the game-winner in overtime.
āThat’s something that I did not count on,ā Karlsson said after the game, via TribLive.com. āIt’s a great save. I can’t really do anything else but tip my hat and say āgood job.’ I thought it was a clear shot and an open net. I just smiled at him. There’s nothing really I can say. Unfortunately,Ā I’m going to be on the highlightsĀ for quite a time with that one.ā
