Mark this one down in the “reasons not to dip” category.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins because of dizziness after he swallowed his chewing tobacco, MLB.com reported.
While many players dip with regularity, its pretty rare — and strongly suggested against — to turn it into a meal.
Gonzalez might have inadvertently swallowed it while making a play, but the unplanned snack left him unable to continue in the game.
Luckily for Gonzalez and the Rockies, manager Walt Weiss told reporters the outfielder would be just fine and good to go for the next game.
Next time, maybe Gonzalez will opt for some bubble gum instead.
