Aaron HernandezFormer New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez revealed in a court filing released Tuesday that he felt “helpless” when police were questioning him about the murder of Odin Lloyd during a 2013 search of his home.

Hernandez, who pleaded not guilty to murder in the June 2013 shooting of the semi-professional football player, also expressed concern about the rest of his family during the investigation.

“I felt helpless in the face of the occupation of my house by the police,” Hernandez said in a sworn statement, via The Associated Press. “I was also very concerned about what would happen to my fiancĂ©e and our baby if I refused to answer their questions. I did not feel free to leave at any time during the search.”

According to The AP, Hernandez’s sworn statement was filed as part of a motion to suppress evidence related to his cell phone, which Hernandez said he told police how to access during the 10-hour search that occurred on June 13.

Hernandez’s lawyers also believe the former Patriot should have been given a Miranda warning about his right to remain silent, as he and his attorneys told police the night before the search that all questions should be directed toward them, not Hernandez.
