Bruins’ Zdeno Chara Admits He Had Broken Fingers During 2014 Playoffs

Zdeno Chara wasn’t himself in the Boston Bruins’ second-round Stanley Cup playoff series loss to the Montreal Canadiens last season, and there was a good reason for it.

The B’s captain told reporters at Monday’s informal practice in Wilmington, Mass., that he dealt with two broken fingers on his shooting hand, which of course, affected his ability to shoot, pass the puck and use his stick to poke check.

Luckily for the Bruins, Chara’s injuries have healed with training camp less than two weeks away.

During the team’s break-up day following its Game 7 loss to Montreal, Chara spoke to reporters but didn’t reveal any details on his suspected injuries. He kept his left hand in the pocket of his pants the whole time, preventing the media from getting a look at his shooting hand.

Chara finished the Canadiens series with zero goals and two assists in seven games.
