NFL: Buffalo Bills at Chicago BearsBrandon Marshall’s domestic violence allegations are back in the spotlight.

Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta where she blasted the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell for their mishandling of domestic violence cases, and specifically for ignoring previous complaints filed against Marshall dating back to 2006.

Allred appeared with a friend of and the father of Rasheedah Watley, the ex-girlfriend of the now-Chicago Bears wide receiver who accused him of abusing her. The three claimed that Watley reached out to Goodell and the NFL on numerous occasions about an incident involving Marshall but was ignored every time.

In 2008, Marshall was suspended three games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, but the suspension was later reduced to one game. Marshall denied ever abusing Watley in an interview on “Outside the Lines” in 2009.

No new allegations were made Wednesday against Marshall, but Allred said she would write to the NFL about her proposed changes to “improve the process” for victims of domestic abuse.

“This issue is so much bigger than Brandon Marshall,” she said. “It is about the NFL and what it needs to do in the future. We want the NFL to get it right.”
