Little League Coach Dies At Son’s Practice After Ball Hits Him In Head

A beautiful Sunday turned into a nightmare when Little League coach Richard Becher was killed by a line drive during batting practice, according to the New York Daily News.

Becher had been pitching from behind a protective “L” screen when he was struck in the head at Baseball Heaven in Yaphunk, NY.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. in front of a group of 12-year-olds, including Becher’s son. The kids were evacuated off the field and several bystanders attempted to revive Becher with CPR while they waited for an ambulance to arrive.

Becher was rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue but did not make it. Along with his son, Becher, 50, leaves behind his wife and 14-year-old daughter.

“He died doing something he totally loved being involved with his kid’s life,” Becher’s brother-in-law, John Bree, told the Daily News.
