Football helmets are supposed to protect players from big hits, but what happens when you get hit so hard you lose your helmet?
University of Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. lived out that scenario Friday night against Temple.
Midway through the first quarter deep in Temple territory, Ward Jr. scrambled out of the pocket to the left. He made a dash for the end zone but a pair of Temple defensive players stepped up and put a quick end to that idea. The Owls popped Ward hard, hitting him with so much force that his helmet came flying off.

The good news for Ward and the Cougars is that the hit didn’t leave any sort of lasting impact. He went on to complete 29 of 33 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns as Houston rolled to a 31-10 win.
