It wasn’t the 10-game suspension he feared, but John Scott didn’t emerge from Sunday’s massive brawl unpunished.
The NHL announced Monday that it had suspended Scott for two games for his role in a brawl between the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks. Scott left the bench to fight Anaheim’s Tim Jackman, sparking a massive fracas between the two teams.

NHL director of player safety Stephane Quintal explains that Scott took the ice via a legal line change, negating the possibility of an automatic 10-game suspension for violating Rule 70.10 and leaving the bench illegally.
This isn’t the first time the 32-year-old has dealt with the league’s discipline committee. Around this time last year, Scott, who was playing for the Buffalo Sabres, was suspended seven games for a hit on Loui Eriksson that left the Boston Bruins forward with a concussion.
No other players faced discipline as a result of Sunday’s game.
