UFC Announcer Gives Disastrous Performance In First NFL Broadcast

UFC announcer Mike Goldberg doesn’t exactly have the experience that Al Michaels or Jim Nantz do in terms of handling NFL play-by-play duties.

Unfortunately for him, his lack of experience and preparation showed mightily in his first career NFL broadcast on FOX.

While calling the NFC North showdown between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Goldberg misidentified Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings as Golden Tate, who plays for the Lions.

That wasn’t all.

Goldberg, whose football play-by-play experience is limited to the Lingerie Football League’s championship game and some college football games, made myriad errors like getting faked out by a play-action pass on his first call. Goldberg also made several mistakes when identifying downs and distance and had difficulty pronouncing names.

After the disastrous performance, Twitter users criticized Goldberg for his work, which only prompted him to lash back at them with some expletive-laden responses.

Sigh.

Goldberg returns to the booth Sunday for the Vikings’ game against the Buffalo Bills. Hopefully for viewers, he’s a little bit more prepared.
