The box score gave Andrei Markov the primary assist on P.K. Subban’s goal Sunday, but it should really be credited to Kyle Quincey’s inner thigh.
The Montreal Canadiens took a two-goal lead over the Detroit Red Wings in an unusual way at Joe Louis Arena. At 8:36 of the second period, Subban fired a slapshot from the point that deflected off Quincey’s leg, bounced off the ice and past Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.

The puck hit the Red Wings blueliner with enough force to bounce hard off the ice and hop over Howard’s glove. If the puck hadn’t hit Quincey, the shot would have been wide of the net by a few feet.
Quincey was down after the play and likely will have a nasty looking bruise, but he was able to get up slowly and skate off on his own.
Subban’s goal was his second in as many games after suffering an 11-game scoring drought. It proved to be the game-winner, as the Canadiens went on to beat the Red Wings 4-1.
