The Oakland Raiders can’t figure things out on the field, but they’re capable of shining off of it.
The Raiders recently teamed up with FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer to help make 4-year-old Ava Urrera’s dreams come true. Glazer arranged for Ava, who suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, to meet and hang out with the team this week.
But the Raiders did much more than spend some time with the little girl. They showered her with autographed gifts, gave the family tickets for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, showed them around the facility and made Ava captain for the day.
But it’s what offensive lineman Menelik Watson did that truly went above and beyond. He donated his game check for the week — totaling around $18,000 — to the Urrera family.
Watson told the family he wanted to ensure Ava had a wonderful holiday.
With all of the horrible news coming out of the NFL this season, it’s reassuring to hear a heartwarming tale of generosity. Well done, Menelik Watson.
