The city of Boston is preparing for a rowdy Super Bowl Sunday.
Boston Police Commissioner William Evans issued a statement Friday, announcing temporary parking and access restrictions to several parts of the city because of the New England Patriots-Seattle Seahawks matchup, as well as Winter Storm Juno, which recently dumped up to 3 feet of snow on Beantown.
Evans writes the restrictions will include many streets “in/around the Brighton area, Kenmore Square, Northeastern, Faneuil Hall and North Station areas.” In addition, in an effort to limit crowds, Kenmore Square will be shut down after the third quarter. Boylston and Hemenway Streets also will be shut down around 6 p.m.
Police presence also will be increased, and in a message directed at college students, Evans added if students misbehave, their names will be turned over to their “respective Dean of Students for appropriate discipline.”
“We are fortunate to have exceptional athletic teams and the most loyal and enthusiastic fans,” Evans wrote. “It is our hope that you enjoy the festivities and celebrate in a safe and responsible manner. Please remember that there will be zero tolerance for disruptive and illegal behavior. Keep in mind that you all play a role in our effort to ensure that the City of Boston is a shining example of stellar sports teams and their fans! Go Pats!”
