Many NHL players play through pain and injury in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and Ryan McDonagh is the latest example.

The Rangers captain and No. 1 defenseman left Friday night’s Eastern Conference Final Game 7 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning early in the first period. He returned later in the period, but it was clear he wasn’t at full strength.

Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault was asked about it after the game, and he announced that McDonagh had been playing with a broken foot.

McDonagh finished Game 7 with 17:33 of ice time, which is about six minutes below his team-leading 23:30 average for the entire playoffs.
